Qt4 (and so PyQt4) was not updated by the company which creates Qt to support Windows 10, so it has problems and crashes there. But if you still want to install it, you should do it using a conda environment, like this. Conda create -n old-pyqt pyqt=4* ?.

I was working on a GUI project on windows and I was unable to install pyqt4 directly using “pip install pyqt4”. But I worked around the problem to find a solution.
Requirements:. Windows 10. Python 3.6 with pip support.
Download the relevant wheel file from the link given above based on your python version and cpu architecture. Open the powershell with admin rights and navigate to the folder that you downloaded the wheel file. Pip install wheelfilename When the above command is executed, the pyqt4 should get installed on your PC that supports your python version. Python import PyQt4 To check whether pyqt4 is correctly installed, execute the above commands and if it is similar to the image shown below, then you are good to go. That is it, now you continue with your graphical application using Python.

Hi, I think that Anaconda is maybe too much, but I would advice to checkout miniconda, which is basically just the installer and the python interpreter and serves the same purpose, without including a scientific python distribution with jupyter, to install Leo. My advice is to create a Leo installer/updater using miniconda as a base. Same installation recipes should work on miniconda and anaconda.
